LegalPrivacy Policy

How Nine Nine Africa collects, uses, and protects information about the people who read it.

Effective January 2026.

Who we are

Nine Nine Africa (https://ninenine.africa) is a media and commerce property of Artive, owned by Artive Ventures. This policy covers the main Nine Nine Africa site and its ticketing platform. Questions about it can be sent to hello@ninenine.africa.

Information we collect

We collect information in a few ways:

  • Newsletter and account details: if you subscribe to our newsletter or create an account to buy tickets, we collect your email address and, for orders, the payment details needed to fulfil them. Ticket orders are processed by our WooCommerce store and the event organizer selling them; we do not store full payment card numbers ourselves.
  • Usage data: like most sites, we automatically collect standard technical information when you visit, such as your browser type, device type, pages viewed, and referring site, typically through cookies or similar technologies.
  • The 99 Club: stamp progress on our 99 Club page is stored only in your own browser (localStorage). It is never sent to us or to any third party, and clearing your browser data clears it.
  • Your Sound, Reviewed: if you choose to connect your Spotify account on our Your Sound, Reviewed page, the connection happens entirely in your own browser using Spotify's own login. Your Spotify access token and listening data are never sent to or stored on our servers — they exist only in that browser tab for the length of your visit.

Cookies and advertising

We use cookies to keep the site working properly and to understand, in aggregate, how it is used. We may also work with third-party advertising partners, including Google AdSense, to display advertising on the site. These partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites, in order to provide advertisements about goods and services that may interest you.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or review how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also control cookies generally through your browser settings.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Send the newsletter and manage ticket orders you have opted into;
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the site, charts, and ticketing platform;
  • Understand, in aggregate, which content and events resonate; and
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse.

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

Third-party links and organizers

Our ticketing platform is a multi-vendor marketplace: individual events are listed and fulfilled by independent organizers selling through the platform. Our charts, playlists, and gig guide link out to Spotify, third-party ticketing platforms, and other external services. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review; we are not responsible for them.

Your choices

  • You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any newsletter email.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising using the Google Ads Settings link above.
  • You can block or delete cookies through your browser's settings.
  • You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing us.

Children's privacy

Nine Nine Africa is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
